    Try it from konsole. Open a konsole, and type "su" to get root permissions. Then type "yast2". What error messages do you get?

    If you are launching it in Gnome I find it doesn't run correctly from the run command. Try launching it from the menu icon. It should be fine in KDE though.

    i too have had the same problem of Yast not wanting to load from the application menu. When I click on it, the root password request window opens, I enter my password and the window disappears, but no Yast.

    If I run yast from the console as root, it opens with no hesitation.
