Cannot boot from SUSE dvd for dual boot with XP
Having recently set up a dual boot system on my laptop running XP and SUSE10.1, I was hoping to do the same on my desktop with a virgin HDD. This was an upgraded 160GB following the failure of my old 80GB HDD a few weeks back. The XP install seemed to go ok although despite my checking all the Boot Loader prefs in BIOS, I can't seem able to get my system to boot from CD. I thought that this may have been something to do with the version of SUSE I was using (following on from the problems in 10.1 I decided to revert to 10.0), but having tried with 9.0, 9.2, 10.0 and 10.1 I can't get anywhere with any of them! Even when I ask to boot from CD it continues to boot into XP.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Well yes, I just tried that a short while ago and whilst my drive sounded like it was struggling it managed it ok. I've just dug out some old SUSE 10.0 installation cds and for some reason it seems to be letting me boot from these but not the dvds. Even so its going very slowly and have only just got to the first installation screen!
No. It seems to be having problems reading from the boot cd. I also get the message "Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM no emulation"....having thought that my hard drive had gone kaput am I about to find out that the problem actually lies with my disc drive??

check hard disk for errors through software provided by its manufacturer. or try UBCD.

Have you tried booting from the linux disk on another computer recently. Maybe the disk is damaged and unbootable. Possibly your laptop bios isn't able to boot from dvd. Maybe try a linux install cd?
