Having troubles with 10.1 and need help!

I just installed SUSE 10.1 and when it boots up, a text interface loads and asks me for my linux login:. The installation didn't prompt me to create an account at all so I am clueless on how to get past this. Another thing I noticed is I cannot type a password in anyway. I have tried root, /, etc but I am stuck here.

Another problem/question I have is, how do I bring up my Windows XP partition? I know I need to dual boot but when I turn on my PC, it automatically boots to this Linux shell and I can't log in to it anyway. And I am 100% sure I didn't overwrite or format the Windows partition, but I think that Windows was loaded onto the 2nd partition, IE local disk E: instead of C:.

Can anyone please help me with any of this? Thanks

Update: I tried reinstalling and now I get a GUI login screen. However, I still do not know what login name or password to use... The installation process didn't go through account setup or anything, it just got through the software install and rebooted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

it seems that you havnt installed suse properly.
best resolu is to install suse from the scratch with a Eagle eye on the available options and the chosen one

    for WinXP Problem

boot into recovery console of winXp
and type fixmbr but this will remove grub or lilo

Ok well after 6 attempts of installing, checking every software, every setup option, it still does the same thing.

As for the Windows problem, I did what you said and tried rebooting but now it just blinks and says no operating system found. I used chkdsk and everything seemed fine except bootcfg showed drives as corrupted... So now I am reformatting and installing Windows XP again.. I am not going to try again with this Linux, but thank you for your support.
