Kaffeine and Xine will probably do the trick. The problem you're having is likely because SuSE doesn't ship with the proper codecs to be able to play some media out of the box. Here's a tutorial that might help you fix that.

I second that recomendation of tutorial it really really is good, I followed it when I set up SuSE and it did everything straight away.

However, I have to say I prefer amarok as a media player to xine, but thats just personal preference, the codecs you download from there will provide you with the codecs for any media player so have a mess around see what you like.

Dependant on your SuSE-10.1 version (the "original" or the "remastered"), and dependant on whether you have added the YaST software package manager updates, and dependant on which way you are trying to do the update, this problem can occur.

Many of us install a 3rd party software package manager (such as Apt/Synaptic, or Smart) to minimize this SuSE-10.1 "bug"/"annoyance" (it wasn't in earlier SuSE versions).

Assuming that you have sorted the dependencies, you can always install an rpm from the rpm command in a konsole. For example:
    rpm -Uvh oldcpu-example-package-0.001.i386.rpm

I would recommend VLC player because it does every audio and video file known to man (ok...well at least most of them).

Add packman to your YaST directory (http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_Ya...e_Repositories) (its the first one) and then search for vlc. It will download all the dependancys too.
