    Dial up problem

    Hi there

Having a problem connectin to the internet via kinternet.
Am a noobie using SLED 10 on gnome, modems a US Robotics 56k which was auto detected by yast. Installed the modem through Yast and set up my dial up connection/provider etc, set up mail etc..and 'finished' the yast configuration.

Ran kinternet, clickit, get the lil lit up bit,but no connection and modem lights not lighting up..(apart from the standard "cs" light).
How do i actually get kinternet to use my modem and dial out?

Iv used this modem on Ubuntu and it was fine, just cant figure out how to get kinternet to use it and actually dial out?!

    kinternet logs as follows:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on (none).
    Status is: disconnected
    trying to connect to smpppd
    connect to smpppd

have you tried using kppp kppp works better or me could never get kinternet to work i think it has something to do with modem try querying your modem and see if you get a response

    re: SuSe & dialup modem

I'm running SuSe 9.2 dial-up with an external modem. Assuming 10 is similar, right click the plug and select Configure with Yast2. From the main Menu you can get to it via System, Yast, Network Devices, Modem. Go through the entire dialog, delete any other modems and configure the one detected. Note the device name. Your log didn't show it dialing so this appears to be a software issue.

But, it is possible that your receiver/transmitter is bad. If you can, try another modem. If you need another modem, I have an extra BestData V.92 you can have cheap. Email me. Work on the software config first. That may be all you need. I've found SuSe's Yast2 hardware tools to be very useful.
