ati install,SuSE can't see file or directory :(
Hi folks,
Sorry if this appears long-winded,but I just wanted to provide as much info as possible for now.
Installed SuSE 10.1(Remastered)on a HD all of it's own this week, having used the live disk for a few days.
There are a few fundamental things which differ between the 2,and I absolutely hate, but that's for another time methinks.
My immediate problem is this:
I've been trying to install ati drivers from ati's site(ati-driver-installer-8.30.3.run,located in home/myname/temp)just to enable tv-out on a 9800pro,as it does easily & successfullyin windo$e.I'm not a pixel fragger, incidentally,so fps etc.mean zilch to me.
Well, having followed every howto & tutorial I can find...they all differ slightly in methodology incidentally, which is very confusing.
I've installed x11-video-fglrx &
ati-fglrx-kmp-default
Anyway, when I go into that oh so 1980's dos type screen via init 3,and type:
# cd /home/myname/temp...all appears well so far
I then type:
# sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.30.3.run --buildpkg SuSE/SUSE101-IA32 and I'm immediately presented with "no such file or directory" which is mighty odd,as I can see it,the kids can see it,and I suspect even the cat has some notion of it's existence.
The name would appear to be correct,as there is no i386 or i586 mentioned in the package name,it came down as simply 'ati-driver-installer-8.30.3.run'
I've also tried various older driver packages from ati with identical results, having first cleared the temp directory, and ensured only 1 package is in there, plus of course I've also tried with both 2 -- & only the 1,both with identical results.
Any simple pointers much appreciated.

Before we get to troubleshooting - the best thing to do is use the TAB trick. When you are typing the command, don't type the filename - Just type the first letter or two and hit TAB. You will get an autocomplete as far as possible. If you have just one filename like this it will show you the full filename it will show you as far as it can before they differ - example
Try this - that way if the file is there it will be confirmed, also it will be typed as it exists so we can rule out typos.Code:btr@tom1:~> cd D ##You type this and hit tab.... Desktop/ Documents/ ##System returns these possibilities.... btr@tom1:~> cd Desktop/ #You type 'e' and hit TAB again and it finishes off

Hmm,I tried that, assuming you meant me to try those commands in the konsole(black screen looking thing)down near the start button.
I tried cd from A-Z with one # and with 2 ##'s,as I wasn't really sure how to do it,but anyway, every time it came up with 'no such file or directory' so I wasn't able to try any of the susequent steps.
Also,I've just had a wander around some of the config tools in SuSE,and discovered that some list my monitor refresh rate as 60Mhz,while others list it as 75,which is what I prefer it to be,though which one's correct is anyones guess.
One thing I was pleased to discover is how to set my mouse to always double-click,as it was reminiscent of the dreaded windows active desktop prior to that, and I'm sure no-one in their right mind would ever want to use that hideous critter...crash bang wallop...what a picture!!!
Currently downloading Freespire,as it appears to include proprietary ati driver, though I won't hold my breath as to it's efficacy just yet.
