Another NVIDIA problem
Hey guys,
Right, very strange problem here.... me and a friend much more experienced with linux cannot get our heads round it - so hopefully you guys can give me some insight.
I installed the latest drivers from the nvidia website for my card (6200 TC). I did this using the manual method of recompiling kernel etc, and everything was great, got the NVIDIA boot screen, and glxinfo shows that NVIDIA is the vendor for my card, my opengl, and my xgl and that Direct Rendering is enabled.
HOWEVER, the first thing I noticed was that when the X server kicked into the login screen i got a message " NO SUPPORT " across the middle of my monitor, which is remedied by pressing the auto config but on the monitor. However this is really annoying, and the same symptoms occur EVERY boot and EVERY time I open a game such as UT2004 which runs at a lower resolution than I have on my desktop. I know that the monitor supports my 1280 X 1024 resolution (its a 19") because I used to run it under that in windows, and on the open source drivers on suse without a problem.
the next problem was that I noticed in glxgears I get a frame rate of around 570 FPS which is incredibly low, and although my card is a bit crap, I would have still expected this to be higher. This is what got me thinking that maybe there was a problem with my graphics drivers. In addition to this, when I installed cedega, some tests are run on your PC to check the spec, and the 3D acceleration test FAILED.
Now in theory, 3D accel is enabled, as Direct Rendering shows as being enabled. This is my major concern, however I would like a solution to my monitor problem as well.
((if it helps, when I ran sax2 after installing the monitor drivers, the monitor was being picked up as a 17" LCD and shows the "NO SUPPORT" message in either this setting or when i change the monitor to LCD with a 19" ratio))
many thanks
