    getting xgl and compiz

I would like to install XGL so I can see what it's all about and see if it's all it's said to be, and to check out what all it has to offer, which is mostly eye candy from what I can tell. Still want to check it out.

Well, I installed the latest ATI drivers using YaSt2, but everytime i get to the point to activate XGL on my system. Every time I get to that point it tells me that 3D acceleration is not activated. Basically, what I want to know is what do I have to do to enable 3D acceleration? If anything...

btw Im running openSuSe 10.1 and my video card is ATi Radeon 9800 Pro.

    Thanks in advance,

    Dustin

Sorry a typo on my part -
    Code:
    fglrxinfo
Sorry about that. This runs if you have installed the proprietary driver from ATI. If you are using the Radeon open source driver acceleration is there sometimes but not always.

    Thumbs up xgl problem

    Hello,

i installed opensuse10.1 on my laptop:
    toshiba a100-192 : 2.0Ghz DualCore
    100Gb - 512MB ram
    ati mobility x1600 256MB

after installing the ati driver from www.ati.com
everything worked fine and i had hardware acceleration.
but after and configureing xgl for use on KDE , i noticed that i had my 3d disabled , although Xgl was working and i could rotate the desktop and stuff ......... i knew that after i ran the "ati ocntrol" , i don't recall what message i got, but i guess it said that fglrx was not found and it was actually using mesa.I also notice that when i was launching games that require 3d acceleration , thay were jerky and ran slow.

so i moved back to Xorg. And now i do dont have Xgl

i configure the ati driver based on the tutorial : http://linux.wordpress.com/2006/05/1...-installation/
and i configured xgl accordina to :
    http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17174.html

No worries man. I was just confused, you are helping me so it's greatly appreciated.

This is what the output of that command gave me.

    Code:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
    OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.4.1)

    *bump*

i was unable to accomplish this. The first tutorial I couldnt even get past the first step as the /linux directory did not exist.
