what app are you using to play it?

does that app appear to be playing (i.e. progress bar is moving)?

do you know what audio engine and device the player is using?

It's a problem with Flash that has been around for a long time. There are a few links around the forum on how to fix this. You may find if the first sound application you use when you log in is flash that it will be fine. It is to do with resource locking. I believe that this will be fixed in the upcoming Flash 9 (which is in beta now) as they use a different sound system.

If you search around about this problem with your SuSE, you will discover that SuSE, as provided by Novell/SuSE-GmbH, is mostly crippled for multimedia. Hence most SuSE users update their SuSE version with 3rd party applications from Packman and Guru. For example, I use kaffeine to play CDs. Kaffeine uses the xine engine, and the Novell/SuSE-GmbH packaged xine engine is mostly crippled. So I went to Packman, did a search on xine, and appropriately updated my xine application with the Packman version. That mean installing associated dependencies, and other applications (such as lame and mad). And now I can play (and hear sound) from CDs with kaffeine on my SuSE fitted PCs.
