    vsftpd only logs in every THIRD try!

    It's not random, every third try.
    I've got anonymous logins disabled, but other than that, everything is as the default config file.
    This is clearly some shoddiness of vsftpd as I had the same issue on fedora.

    Does anyone know of a better ftp server I can use?

    I use Proftp on a suse 10.1 server. It works great.

    There are no packages for it for Suse you will have to install it manually.
