Suse 10.1 Sound Help!
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post here so I'll begin by saying hello. I've just recently set up an install of suse 10.1 x86_64 on my PC. Unfortunately I have an XFI soundcard and since it will have no drivers until late 2007 I need to use motherboard sound for now.
I have a K8X800Pro II with a Via VT1720 audio controller. Now I no longer have the peripheral attachment for the motherboard sound so I have to use the sound output ports on the main section of the motherboard with all the other plugs.
When I installed Suse the soundcard was switched off in the BIOS. Since then I've turned it on and I installed the card ok with YAST. The drivers also seem to be correct, however I hear no sound. I'm quite new to using Linux and would like to know what steps I should take to begin resolving this problem.
Thanks

Well, problem solved. It turned out I was plugging the headphone cord into the wrong socket >.> for some reason the audio output is on a different port to the one Windows uses.
However I have a couple more questions. I'm still interested in understanding the basics of linux sound setup.
I'm also very interested to know how I can get AAC files playing. The built in suse audio capabilities don't seem able to handle them. Thanks.

Well got the aac working by downloading packman xmms and faad-2 with plugins. Looking good, looking good now if only my x-fi worked so the sound isn't so tinny
