Installation of SUSE and Win 98SE

    Hi!
I like to join the Linux family, I am glad I found a place Like this.
I very little knowledge about what I want to do, I like to ask somebody to support me if possible. My computer PIII500 had for long time a small hard drive 13 GB and OS is win 98SE, I just updated with a new hard drive that holds 40GB and installed as additional storage. I want to use time being both of them in the same computer. Shall I disconnect the 13GB and install the SUSE to the new drive and later put the 13GB with win 98SE back to my computer. Is this the safest way and does it work that way?
Thanks for all info! Regards Raimond.

yes ! this is the safest way. unplug windows disk and plug-in new disk as Primary Master. install SuSe. after installation, plug-in Windows disk as Secondry and follow instructions given in this thread http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...dual-boot.html for Dual Boot setup.

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Thanks Casper.
One more question before the "battle starts".
The emty HD in my computer was installed by me and now reads as D (slave)
(While 98 was activ) from "Seagate download". Shall I make any changes in BIOS setup or is it enough when I start it up with SUSE disk #1of 5 as is. Disks I downloaded and burned from "index of Opensuse/ distr./SL-10.1/iso".

    Regards Raimond

Set CDDRIVE as 'first boot device' in BIOS and unplug Windows disk before SuSe installation. in case, anything goes wrong during SuSe installation, windows disk will be safe.

    Good Luck !

    SUSE 10.1
I cot stack with my installation at "SOFTWARE"
It reads software: Nocatalog found at 'CD:///?devices= dev hdc%2e/dev/hdd.'
Error: no proposal. Evaluating pacage selection forever when the disc #1 (of 5) is in the cd drive. Anybody has an idea or Casper what is happening?
    Regards Raimond
