new install internet issues
hello
i have just re-installed suse 10.1 off the dvd with kde. i had suse running alone on my laptop before but due to sound issue that couldn't be resolved, i had to set up a dual boot with windows xp home. I had tried kubuntu and knoppix and debian and freespire before deciding to stick with suse. besides freespire, suse was the only distro that allowed me to access the internet with my wired device, at least when it was initially installed.
after formatting and installing windows on a partition, i installed suse on the rest of the hdd, but now cannot get the interent to work at all in suse, it works fine in windows
both my wired and my wireless network cards are detected and it says the wired is connected, but no webpages will load, kopete won't connect etc.
since it worked before on the previous install i am hopefull there is something i can do to get it running again.
any advice would be appreciated, and i can provide any information requested,
thanks
benjamin
ps i tried doing a reinstall after relizing the internet didn't work

check your configuration in yast to see if the card has been set up properly, also, check your firewall settings to ensure it isn't blocking the card from accessing the net. open a console & try and ping a site, just to see if you can, as it could be a resolv.conf problem
just a few things to try
SLOMO: acer extensa 5235 2.2ghz,2gb ram 160gb hdd wireless
SPEEDY: homebrew desktop,Amd x2 dualcore,2gb ram,500gb +1tb( 2x500gb) hdd suse 11.3,32mb fibreline

well everything seems fine in yast, but i can't ping anything
i tried http://www.google.com and http://www.cbc.ca and my router 192.168.0.1, and none worked.
as for the firewall i'm not quite sure how to check that...

Hi there,
derhoi,
just jumping in, as i have done my first install of Suse 10.1 yesterday, and experienced similar problems for conecting to the net. to fix it i have just done one thing... SWITCHed OFF the networkmanager (or whatever this is called),
You know where it promts you if you want to enable networkmanager or do it the old fashioned way.... select the traditional way....
I do not remember the exat wording nor were this option is located, but have look and give it a go... i ll try to attache a shot later on if you need it...
Good luck

Internet connect fails
I'm in same boat so please if you find a solution do post the answer. I'll of course do the same.
Getting noises that Ubuntu does not have a problem in this regard, but I'll persevere with Suse 10.1 for now. Tapping several leads at once for help!
