X11 and Ati are confusing :S
I have been using my laptop for the time being whilst I wait to find the time to fix my normal computer.
I haven't really had enough time to play with the laptop so it still has a few things that need sorting. To start with, oneday I randomly started getting "composite manager crashed twice in a minute" messages whenever I started KDE. Apparently I needed to add some lines to my xorg.conf file, which I did.
After that, next time I opened KDE my computer had transparent windows and icon shadowing, which I never set. I think it is too much for my 1.73ghz laptop without 3D hardware accelleration. How do I get rid of it?
This brings me to my next problem. I have an Ati card. I installed the Ati repository to YAST and installed x11-video-fglrx. I then went to install ati-fglrx-kmp-default-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2.i586, however yast generated this:
#### YaST2 conflicts list - generated 2006-11-29 21:03:41 ####
ati-fglrx-kmp-default-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2.i586[20061129-205634] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies
There are no installable providers of kernel(mm) == fdd7a678f669cbe4 for ati-fglrx-kmp-default-8.26.18_2.6.16.21_0.8-2.i586[20061129-205634]
Conflict Resolution:
( ) do not install ati-fglrx-kmp-default
( ) Ignore this requirement just here
#### YaST2 conflicts list END ###
I noticed its name ends in 2.6.16.21. My kernel is only 2.6.16.13-4-default. Is this the problem? If so, what should I do?
