Not sure how to create new users

How do I create a regular (non-root) user in Suse Linux Standard Server 8?

In the YaST Control Center, under “Security and Users”, I only see:

    Firewall
    Security Settings

I may have opted not to install certain components during install of the OS – which may explain the absence of a module allowing me to create more users???

I need to access the web – but want to avoid doing so as root.

If I open the Standard Server icon on the desktop, I end up with a web interface that seems to offer the option to create users and groups, but I’m not sure if this is the right place.

BTW, is there a decent free AV program for Suse Linux Server? I’m learning Linux on my free time – I don’t really want to invest too much. Note: my server is solely for practice.

I have the firewall configured – securely I believe, and also believe that Konqueror is less vulnerable than MS IE but does that eliminate the need for an AV?

    Thank you,

    Aval

Weird that you don't seem to have all the usual YAST modules..... You could add a new user from the command line. Have a look at the "useradd" function.

As far as I know you don't need an AV program for linux, as there are basically no viruses in the wild that affect it. IMHO you should just make sure you have a good strong firewall, and you will be fine.

Thanks to both of you for the AV tips - I'll do w/o one for now.

Concerning the missing module in YaST, is there a way to add additional components?

For example, if I wanted to make a Windows server a Domain Controller, or a DHCP server, or a DNS server, I could either run dcpromo or use "Add and Remove Windows Components" to have these features that I may not have installed initially.

It's been a while since I've used SuSE, but you could try running kuser...
    Code:
    kdesu kuser
