    Exclamation Software Updater

I have not had internet for quite some time now, and I only regained it a few hours ago. Software Updater notified me that I have 388 software updates available, so I attempted to install them. When I push the 'Update' button it thinks for about 30 seconds, then displays the following error:

    Dependency Resolution Failed

    Establishing script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates]
    This would invalidate script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates].
Marking this resolution attempt as invalid.

Please help me solve this problem so that I can update my machine!

    I am using KDE

    P.S.
    I am a complete noob.

I would go step by step, and install a few (maybe 10) at a time. That way you can check if each of the updates actually worked, and also figure out the one that is causing the trouble. You will probably find that, if you install them a few at a time like this, that the dependency error disappears and you'll have no problems installing them all.

In fact, even if I could install all 388 at once, I wouldn't! I've had too many times when I tried that and it killed my installation.

It may be long, slow, and boring, but I think the safest way is to update bit by bit.

Let us know how you get along.

    Smolloy,

I have had this problem since beginning, and I am ignoring it. But now that I have got video music etc working, I decided to look into this matter again. I've done what you suggested before, I only ticked THE FIRST one, and it didn't work. I think the problem is not in the things that we are updating:

    Establishing script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates]
    This would invalidate script:libzypp-patch-zmdrestart.sh-2-1533-1.noarch[SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates].
Marking this resolution attempt as invalid.

I think, some sort of 'script' is being used to perform the update here, here we have the same script invalidating itself. My guess is that there is a duplicate, or maybe we need to upgrade the updater ?

    anyone experiencing this problem before?

I think you're right. After failing a few times before, I ticked only the ones I was sure I wanted. Same error.

    :: UPDATE ::

I tried to install just the update to Firefox, and it worked. I'll try other ones to see what I can get.

I googled this yesterday and found some very interesting articles - it could be some settings in YAST about having to register the SuSe first. I havent managed to get mine working yet, but apparently there are also alternatives to the stupid updater. Will post again when I had the time to do it

    Resolved!

Easy-peasy, go yast, and then look for software updater configuration. Basically, you need to register your configuration with NOVELL first. I skipped this step during installation. Once I done this (took a while, be patient) the software updater runs without a problem.

Actually, it didn't detect any changes, and sees that my SuSe is pretty current. This means that before it was failing because it is trying to update a file that is already there (maybe). Anyhow, problem solved! (for me, at least)

Hmmmmmmm 388 updates sounds like you had never updated your 10.1 install which would mean your zen updater was not functioning correctly. Zen needs those patches installed to work right. or you could download suse 10.1 remastered and update your install.

I never figured it out. I updated to 10.2, and it's fine now.
