    Problem playing music from USB hdd

    Hi,

    I have made a quick search of this forum and a longer search on google but found no answer.

    Here's the situation:
    I have suse 10.1 a 1 year old laptop an external USB hdd with my mp3's on it.
    When I play the mp3's when booted in winblows it works without a hitch. When using Suse I get every few seconds a hickup .... that is playing stops for a fraction of a second (stilll very noticeable) and then it continues playing.

    Questions:
    What is causing this;
    How can I fix this;
    If I provide too little info, what do you need to know;

    Help on this is much appreciated. Solving this is one step closer to saying good bye to Windos as my desktop.

    Regards,

    Jan

    I have the same problem with playing movies from a cd/dvd.
    I think it's because we didn't optimize it enought(you need to do it before playing), but i'm not sure.

    Hi Alex,

    What exactly do you mean by optimizing? Do you have any specific settings I could check?

    Kind regards,

    Try increasing the buffer size, that should resolve most intreruptions, i think.

    Well if you use xmms it should be at the output plugin, so you need to configure the active output plugin.

    Problem resolved though cause is still unknown. The external harddisk had an unfortunate accident. It appears it cannot land very well from 1.5 meters high.

    I had to buy a different harddrive (La Cie this time) and presto no intermittent hangups.

    Regards and thanks for all tips and suggestions.
