SuSE - Advice for a Beginner

    Hi,

I'm completely new to SuSE. I'm looking to convert my old XP laptop to Linux with a view to escaping from my Microsoft prison!!

I have downloaded the ISO files, but I need to "extract" the files onto CD to load the OS. How do I convert the ISO files to the correct format to burn onto a CD. I've had a look at the K3b site, but isn't this software for an Linux platform?

I guess I could buy the CDs, I'll have to pay for a license anyway I guess.

Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

    CF

You don't need to pay for a license unless you want SLED instead of openSuSE

When you download the iso's u then burn them to a cd using a generic burning program so that should automatically convert them to cd or dvd format depending on what u burned it to, and the software u downloaded is not just linux compatable so you should have no worries there, just simply insert the cd at the boot up process and boot from the cd, and have u ever thought of dual booting with windows theres not too many programs and software compatable with linux... Good luck

ps: write complete words, READ THE RULES. Some punctuation may help also

Thanks both of you! While I'm new to Linux / SuSE I have plenty of windows machines to be going on with. So I'm not too worried about going dual boot.

    openSuSE it is!

Welcome to open-source computing. No licenses needed!!! Staroffice will give you all the Micro$oft business apps you're probably used to.

SuSE will come with the OpenOffice suite of applications for Microsoft documents. No need to install Staroffice.
