    After installing 10.1 and when the desktop goes to load up the screen goes blank

    ive installed it 6 times The first 4 times they all went black at the desktop on the 5th time it actually worked and all of this was under gnome. i did a fresh install and switched it to kde and it did the same thing as the other times i cant see anything and my moniter isnt gettin a signal. i have an ati radeon 8500 vid card. Does anyone know of a solution

    If you haven't done so already, you could try the VESA driver with this card.

    Re-boot the PC, and when grub menu appears, type "level 3" in the boot options.

    Log in as a regular user (Jpatton).

    Type "su" to get root permissions (enter root password). Type "sax2 -m 0=vesa". [That is "zero equals vesa"]. Select a conservative graphic setting and test it. Exit sax2.

    Type "exit" to get rid of root permissions. Type "whoami" to confirm you are not root. If still root, type "exit" again, ...

    As a regular user, type "startx". Does that give you KDE? If so, exit immediately.

    When back at text prompt, type "su" to get root permissions, and type "shutdown -r now" to reboot. This time don't type "level 3" when booting.

    thanx i actually just did sax2 and then startx and it went to kde and then just restarted and now it works fine now gettin my wireless card workin.
    im very new to linux. and i have no idea on where to get started on even installin ndiswrapper from my dvd disc or what xp driver to use. i have a linksys wusb54g v4. any help would be appreciated thanx
