    Installing .tgz software on linux

    Hi,

    I recently started to use linux and am COMPLETELY new at this. So take that into account when replying to this post. The problem i am having is installing software on linux. i downloaded some software for linux (with .tgz and .jar extenstion) but have no idea how to install it. Any help on this would be grateful. Thanks

    P.S. I am using SUSE

    SuSe supports .rpm packages and .tgz is for Slackware based Linux distros.
