    SWAPspace needed for suse?

How much swap space is recommended for SuSE 10.1 ? I have allocated 1GB and it shows me this in my computer:

    Total memory (RAM): 1.48 GB
Free memory: 44.87 MB (+ 1.04 GB Caches)

    Is 1GB enough...?

How much RAM does your system have? If you have 1GB or more, you only need around 512MB of SWAP, since it's only used when you run out of physical RAM. Too much swap space is just a waste of harddrive, and it's considerably slower than RAM due to spin up/spin down and seek time lag.

In that case you should be just fine with 512MB. A gigabyte of swap won't do any damage, but it probably won't do you much benefit either. There are some schools of thought that recommend not using a swap at all on newer systems.
