    I did this wrong

Personally I am really turned off by something that is supposed to be easy, but is becoming pain. I sill think the problem is me so I will state my problems and hopefully it is me.
During the 3 attempt to setup up openSUSE it always stops at hardware configuration process right after it does the Graphic Card check. It never makes it to printer or at least never shows me the printer details. Is there any solution to stop this from occurring. I have tried to click skip test and than next, but it doesn't kill the hardware detection process. Like I said it could be me. Is this process to find the printer supposed to take longer than 15.

After the third try, I said don't run setup and I think there is a problem with my scroll also. The mouse well works put scrolling is not as smooth as I am accustom to, just found out that even using the bar doesn't fix the problem. It could be because, I never completed hardware setup. but I have no idea.

Great openSuse starts with Gnome by default, that gives it a plus. Anyway I still need to check my errors at boot and setup my sound card, adduser and everything the installation fails to do. I don't know how to preform these task in Gnome, and I cannot check my boot errors using ctrl alt 2. Help gratefully appreciated.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but it sounds to me like the installation failed because your DVD is faulty. Either scratched, corrupted download or you wrote the image to the cd too fast. Do an MD5 check if you can.

MD5 Checksums can be found at the same place where you downloaded your image, and even go back and download the ISO to your desktop, and, hopefully you're using another version of Linux? Anyway, you can use the standard ISO viewer and copy the code you obtained from the website to instantly compare the two. If you're consequently using Windows, I shall excuse all asinine comments and provide you a link to an MD5 Checksum tool in the link provided and drag the ISO into the dialog box, then copy the checksum code to compare it. Good luck.

Could be a good reason of the DVD being faulty, but i can actually use it. That is very odd. If i choose not to install, i get no sound, no printer, and everything else, that setup is supposed to do. Forgot to say, but i can actually load openSuse. My network works on and i started this thread while still in openSuse

Does installing the printer actually use the DVD, my led on my DVD-rom doesn't even blink during that process. Why doesn't it just say no printer attached. Might be thinking in slackware, but do i need to enable hot plug. This just occurred to me my problems might have started earlier also. When I am asked to install updates, I clicked all three and only the one actually went through. Is that the case for everyone or is that the start of having a faulty DVD.

If i redownload the ISO and burn it again can i start at that same spot of where I left off or do I have to start openSuse from scratch, Honestly it is not a problem either way. I just want to know what the experts thinks.

No need to worry, I have slackware, and XP. I am doing these easier distros for my sister to use.

It is strange that it worked- but it isn't impossible. That obviously means you were unlucky and just a fraction of iso in one exact place must have got corrupted

MD5 sums in Windows now? Awesome. I reckon I'm going to install Windows in VMware (just for fun) and make it a KDE theme, give it that Open Source Windows package manager and install all the Linux software that has Windows versions. Then I'll feel right at home. It'll be just like Linux- but slower and will probably die due to an overflowing registry in 3months - 2 years.

Wifi_is_evil not sure by reading your thread, but if you don't have XP on your PC, somebody has created a live XP cd for it. (I have not tested it yet) It would be nice to try it, but i already have XP. If you just to download and run things why waste time installing XP and giving it a partition when you can run it live now.

I was never trying to install my printer but sound would be nice, what is the command to run ALSA in openSuse. You can smack me if all distros use the same command later, lol. Does everyone have the problem with scrolling up and down or do i need to configure my monitor and video card using xorgconfig.

live xp cd? That sounds illegal.

I'm not sure what the command is, but if no one here answers, suseforums.net seems to be a bit better than this place for your trouble. (I just stick here because it is every linux distro united and it is sorta cool. )

Printers are the easiest things to set up in SuSE. I've never met an OS that does it any better so I'm sure you won't have trouble anyway.

Scrolling up or down? What is wrong with it? I've noticed a few people have had this problem, but I've never had it so look around (use the search button).

I suppose the live cd is illegal but people switch to linux cause they didn't want to pay the big buck or is it because it is a way better operating system. Surprised you don't get in trouble for posting outside links to others forms. Thanks anyways.

Well everyone still uses Linuxforums so I doubt they will care.
