Impossible to run dvd rip Suse 10.2

    Hey guys,

Well, I've spent the last weeks trying to find a good dvd ripper and, well, when I finally find it I cannot use it.

After finding a package for Suse on a rpm website, I tried to install it. But I couldn't because of some dependency failure. So, when I got time to do so, I started to resolve the dependency problem, and I got a dependency hell.

3 hours installing packages, installing everything needed, i could finally install dvd ripper BUT as I was expecting (murphy's law) it didn't run. But then, not even google could answer it.

    The error I get is:

    Can't locate object method "signal_connect" via package "Gtk2::EventBox" at /usr/bin/dvdrip-splash line 39.
Can't locate object method "set" via package "Gtk2::VBox" at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Gtk2/Ex/FormFactory/Layout.pm line 173.

So, even installing thru the source i get the same thing.

Any sort of help is welcome.

    Thanks!

Have you tried adding the packman website to your rpm database as dvdrip + the dependencies is shown for 10.1. See:-

Or try installing the SMART update tool and looking for compatible DVDrip programs that way:

I agree with Amano. I find using Smart to install 3rd party packaged applications for SuSE is convenient, and very quick.

The method I typically follow is to:
    1. install the Novell/SuSE smart from the Novell/SuSE installation CD/DVD, then
    2. download Guru's packaged Smart to my hard drive, and
    3. use the Novell/SuSE smart to install Guru's smart

Note Guru's packaged smart already has the Packman repositories installed. It is also a newer, more stable, better algorithm version of Smart. Hence you should immediately update from Novell/SuSE's packaged version, to Guru's packaged version.

OK, some details on this. Lets say you already have Novell/SuSE Smart installed off of the installation CD/DVD.

And let say you have already downloaded Guru's packaged smart from here.
    http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-naviga...t=/System/smart
Lets say, for the purpose of this example, it is: smart-0.49.1-10.guru.suse101.i686.rpm
and that you have downloaded that to your hard drive to /home/username directory. And since you already have Novell/SuSE smart installed, you simple open a konsole and type:
su (enter root password when prompted)
    smart install smart-0.49.1-10.guru.suse101.i686.rpm
    smart update
(select Y to the various repositories)
    smart install rpmkey*
    smart install smart-gui
    SuSEconfig
    ldconfig
    smart --gui

... and pick and choose the dvdrip, dvdbackup, and many other multimedia apps you want to install.

Thank u all for your answer.

I installed smart and indeed it is a very good tool! Anyways, I still get the same error message...

    Can't locate object method "signal_connect" via package "Gtk2::EventBox" at /usr/bin/dvdrip-splash line 39.
Can't locate object method "set" via package "Gtk2::VBox" at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Gtk2/Ex/FormFactory/Layout.pm line 173.

Guess I'll try to install the 10.1 version.

    I'll post the results...

    Thank u again!

Good luck with 10.1. You will find the package management buggy in 10.1, so you will need some patience. I recommend you go for the SuSE-10.1 remastered version.

If you encounter a similar problem with 10.1, it would really help if you provide more detail, such as the precise name of the package you are trying to install, and where you downloaded it from. You didn't provide us this information, and that complicates the ability to help you.

Also, before installing 10.1, if it is a downloaded CD/DVD iso file, make certain you compared the md5sum of the iso file that you downloaded, against what the SuSE web site says it should be. Also burn at the slowest speed possible, with the higest quality media possible. And if you can do a verify as part of the burn options, that would also help. .... I say this as it is possible that the reason you are encountering this problem is due to a bad install from a less than perfect CD/DVD.

Thank u all... What I had to do? used Smart to install every single package starting with perl*... so, it ran without any problem... The best solution is to find which package is really needed... Any recommendation? Thanks a lot for smart!
