    Convert files to DVD format

I'm trying to find some info on how to convert, say, an .avi file to be playable on a standard DVD player. If anyone can direct me to some info, or users experience that would be great!!!

You need a program that converts media files (avi, mpeg, and so on) to .vob (dvd) files. DVD burning programs (like Nero) usually have an option for making DVD movies using other type of media files.

I have done this using Nero for windows, but am really looking for a linux compatible program. I know there is a Nero program for linux, but i haven't heard to many positive comments in the past regarding that app. However, if any users have info on NeroLinux, i'd like to hear it and possibly purchase it...

I haven't used K3b yet (I'm new to Linux too) but I hear it's better than Nero Linux. Check it out.

I typically use a combination of tovid (to create mpeg files), dvdauthor (to create dvd structure on hard drive), vlc (to do a quality check of dvd structure, prior to burning to dvd), and k3b (to burn to dvd).

Another program to consider is mandvd.

    or kdedvdauthorwizard, ...

    there are others.

Hi oldcpu, i'm gonna try dvdauthorwizard and probably try Nerolinux as well.
I've managed to muck about using videotrans, but all the command line options can be a bit much.

If you want a GUI - try mandvd

I prefer the command line method using tovid and dvdauthor, but if a fancy gui is what you are looking for, then I don't think there is a glossier gui than what you can get with mandvd:
    http://packman.links2linux.org/package/mandvd

There are some sample gui screens here:

... and yes, there are also english menus.
