Install Hangs NET: Protocol family 2
Hi all,
Can anyone lend me some Linux knowledge? I have an old Dell (8100 - 1.4 GHz - P4 - 60GB - 256MB) that I am trying to install Linux Suse 10.2 (5 CD Set from Novell Suse) onto. I currently have no operating system on the machine. I place the first CD into the pc and booted from it. I do get the initial blue welcome screen and install menu. I have attempted to choose each of the install options and they all hang at the same point. When the install reaches the "NET: Protocol Family 2" line, it hangs and will continue no further even if left for several hours.
I also get a black screen but was able to overcome that by loading in text mode.
I do have a built in ethernet card that is not removable. I also have an add on network card (wireless) that I have tried both in and removed from the machine wondering if that was causing the issue. Apparently not. I also have a firewire card that I have also tried to remove and that doesn't seem to cause the issue to go away either.
I am very confused as to what might be causing this to be happening. I do work with computers for a living but don't seem to be able to find answers either from friends or on the net. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Maybe getting a different distro is the easier way to overcome your problem

Working copy
I know this copy works, I've installed it on other machines. This is the first time I've seen this error.
Thank you,

I mean the distro, not the CDs, sometimes a distro work on one computer but it doesn't work in another.
