    Sound problems and yahoo messenger

    I'm new to Suse,having installed Suse 9.3.Initially all I could hear were the system sounds and bellls.Now,nothing.I have checked the control center and my sound card is in the running state. My card model as shown in the control center is 82801 DB/DBL/DBM(ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M)AC97 Audio Controller.On clicking the test sound tab,there is nothing.What could be the problem?Also there is nothing when the test tab in vol settings is clicked.Both the slidrs in master volume is at maximum.Other settings are default as far as I can see.

    Also which version of yahoo messenger to install and where?Firefox 2.0 is also not running.
