SUSE 10.2 won't see FireWire card

I bought and plugged in a SIIG FireWire DV-Cam Kit, hoping to make a connection with a camcorder. Although SUSE 10.2 seems to be installed fine now, for everything else, it completely ignores the card. I'm rather new to Linux so still suffering from deredmond syndrome, but I think I won't even make this a dual-boot system anymore. Anyway, /dev/ doesn't show the 1394 board, lspci doesn't show it either. Although I installed all kinds of stuff like ieee1394 and ohci etc, those modules don't seem to load either.

I know eggs existed long before chickens, but don't know if those libraries don't load because the card is not seen, or vice versa. Anybody has any clue?

(SIIG doesn't seem to be very supportive of Linux - may need to bring this back to Fry's - dang, I hope not! Can't even figure out what other card to buy instead...).

Any suggestions are welcome. Please don't assume depth of knowledge of Linux yet.

    Thanks,

    Andy

Talking OK - I found it out

When the card didn't show up in my Windows box either I decided to bring it back to Fry's. Instead, I bought a cheaper card from Micro Innovations. It comes with a much longer cable, and as a bonus... IT ACTUALLY WORKS!!!
Thank you thank you Fry's - you sometimes actually sell stuff that works. Now I don't need to get back into that nasty returns line ("customer service").
Once the camera is connected to the card, raw1394 shows up in /dev, and apps like Kino work.

    Very nice...

Hope somebody, sometime after me, will be helped by this.

    Cheerio.
