please answer my questions in order.ok.im runing SLED 10 right now and its not like opensuse10.1..i went to "install software" and type SMART but i got nothing.i have this guide ...

    Unhappy Sled 10

    please answer my questions in order.ok.im runing SLED 10 right now and its not like opensuse10.1..i went to "install software" and type SMART but i got nothing.i have this guide "http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/270/" and adding sources through yast takes hell of a time....i wanna use a software manager like smart/synaptic etc..

    1...is there really a software manager for SLED
    2...Where can i get a good guide into really hacking this OS
    3.. Is there anything i should know bout SLED that i should be aware of ?

    Yes it's called ZMD (Zenworks Management Daemon). I no longer use YAST as my package manager. Look in the lower right toolbar and you'll see the icon for ZMD Updater. You can use the SUSE Linux 10.1 repositories listed here http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories since SLED is based on OpenSUSE 10.1.

    The included documentation in the "Help" center is really useful. You can also find more information by reading books such as SUSE Linux Bible found at your local bookstore or online at places such as http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/

    SLED is a Linux distribution intended for offices, schools, etc as a desktop client in a LAN. It's an OS which uses less bleeding edge software to ensure stability for it's customers. Typically SLED would be run in a LAN in combination with SLES. If you want to have bleeding edge software or want to really dig deep into the Linux code then I'd recommend OpenSUSE over using SLED.

    allright thanks..i was just curious with sled..better off with open suse then ..lol
