:) SUSE - Projector display w/ Kaffeine, Noatun, & Xine
Hi,
Looking for someone who has tackled using a laptop w/ a projector.
Running SUSE 10.1 x32 w/ Kaffeine, Noatun, & Xine - on a Compaq/HP laptop and a Infocus X3.
Video clips run fine from all 3 apps
Projector ONLY picks up background NOT the video app
Infocus recognizes a problem w/ windows xp
DOES NOT seem to be "Key Command to Activate Port":
* FN + F4
* FN + F2
* Automatic
* Ctrl + Alt + <
Problem seems to be with DISPLAY settings on 10.1 but I cannot figure out what is wrong.
I should be able to output the image I see on the laptop to the VGA port using SUSE, correct?
I AM NOT a programer, but I support the Linux community.
Thanks,
JCB

SUSE 10.1 VGA out problem
Hi,
Still hoping someone has overcome this problem.
I connected laptop via VGA to monitor - same problem.
VGA output good through boot up - but on final GNOME desktop image, output - all messed up.
Searches say "try KDE desktop". Need help switching to KDE, tried "loggout" > sessions but KDE not an option.

KDE install
I thought I did install KDE on installation.
I have successfully setup "add-on products", I have searched and downloaded apps. which pertain to: video, display, nvidia etc. - but VGA output "all messed up" when running SUSE.
My desktop is GNOME - how do I switch to KDE if installed - and - if not where can I download KDE?
Thanks

There may be easier ways but that should work.
If not installed go to Yast - Software Management
set filter to selections and check the KDE Desktop enviroment.
press Accept
Note this will most probably ask you insert a installation CD.
This depends on what installation sources you have set

KDE install
Thanks. This is what I got:
xset: unable to open display """"
xset: unable to open display """"
xsetroot: unable to open display ' '
startkde: starting up...
kdeinit: Aborting. $DISPLAY is not set
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
ksmserver: cannot connect to X server
ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!
DO I have a corrupt file between SUSE and display driver?

log out of your session. At the login screen you will see some text "Session type" at the bottom left. This will bring up a menu of options.
select kde here then log in. That should start a kde desktop. If for some reason kde is not there. go to Yast and be sure that kde is installed.
Yea much easier. I installed gnome just to try it out
