    SUSE 10.2 Sound Not Working

Sound ONLY works for about 1-2 sec on boot and then stops. I've tried everything I can think of but can't seem to make any progress. Here is the details of my installation:

    SUSE 10.2 (64 bit)
    Shuttle SK21G mother board
    VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 audio controller
    VIA 82xx Audio driver

Everything seems to look fine in YAST, kmix, and alsa but no sound.

Just curious if when you load the sound settings in yast it will play the CD?

I am having a similar problem I changed around some settings and now I can get the CD to play sound all the time but I cannot get MP3s or other sounds to play unless I open yast and load the sound card configuration. Even then it only works until you stop playing the current song.

I'm to the point where I'm going to try reinstalling the whole Operating system because I'm wondering if I set something up wrong on install and I'm too much of a noob to change settings with it already installed.

BTW I have a audiogy sound card

    -Update-

Apparently this problem isn't all that uncommon

I tried the suggestions at these links but with no luck.

I'm convinced that SUSE 10.x is not worth using. I'm now thinking of converting over to Fedora.

Any luck in getting your system going?

With alot of fiddling around I got my sound working but amorok keeps turning my PCM volume back to zero everytime a song starts. Its something to do with the realplayer/helix engine. Xine won't even play mp3s.
