Can't Install Suse On Dell Poweredge 1950, no Hard drive found, weird
This is a new Dell server with SAS 73 GB hard disk, at the beginning of installation, it says no hard drive found, then in partitioning section, I got a error message and won't let me go to next step.
no automatic proposal possible, specify mount points manually in the partitioner dialog.
If I use Dell OpenManage, it allows me to see the hard drive and do partition, select SuSE Enterprise, then after partition, it asked for SuSE Enterprise CD1, and won't take SuSE 10.1 DVD.
Please advise.

Unfortunately, with Dells and Compaqs/HPs, without using their proprietary system install software, it's pretty difficult to get the machine going. You don't have access to the SuSE cd's?

You mean SuSE Enterprise CDs? I only have SuSE linux open source, maybe I should try new version 10.2, maybe it will make difference.
The DVD I have was from Linux-magazine.com, maybe that is the problem.
But I did see some other people got this same problem, and his solution is to book from IDE hard disk and install SuSE in SATA disk.

try this :
when installer throws 'no harddisk found' error, it drops you in Manual Installation Mode. go to Load Modules --> IDE --> ide-generic. Leave the parameters field blank. go back and resume installation. check if it finds Harddisk now.
CasperIt is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

I've never seen a poweredge that used IDE. SAS is server attached storage, and it's 73 gigs so I am betting this is a scsi drive. You could always find the controller on dell's website and look up modules for it, then load them manually. I still say that finding a way to do it with openmanage is the way to go, but if this is just some toy for testing purposes, screw it. Do whatever works.
