    ati video card drivers...help

    suse version: 10.2 64-bit
    video card:ati x800
    driver version: 8.32.5 x64

Ok, so this is my third time installing suse and vid card drivers. I refuse to give up. The first time after insalling the drivers, all the windows become locked and froze and I couldn't type anything. Reinstall. The second time KDE wouldn't even boot, just a blank screen. I know it's not the drivers fault or suse, its mine. and i want to find out what i'm doing wrong.

Ok, so i made the rpm from the ati website. That's easy. I have the kernel source, and gcc packages. now I just do the following???

    1. rpm -i fglrx64_7_1_0_SUSE102-8.32.5-1.x86_64.rpm

    2. SaX2 -r -m 0=fglrx (do i have to run this command after the reboot in text mode...or can i do it after the installation of the at drivers)

then, after this I have to go into the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and delete the old monitor, device, and screen entries

and then if i want to use xgl and compiz then add this to the xorg.conf file...

    Section "Extensions"
    Option "Composite" "0"
    EndSection

And thats it? Am I leaving out any steps? I will wait for a few responses, because I don't want to reinstall suse again. I really like 10.2 and i'm on the verge of completely switching, just these damn drivers...argg..anyways, pretty please help. Thank you.

You can try simply downliad ATI Driver Installer (unfortunately it does not support X.Ogr 7.2). And install drivers directly from is (without rpm). Just read Installer Instructions before that.
Also I recomend to read this article:

    And good luck
