    Suse 9.1 Trouble

I know I should have the latest edition of Suse. But this is an emergency situation and I am only using this edition temporarily.

I have installed this version so that I can access my files on a harddrive that is literally screwed and burn the personal stuff that I would not like to lose.

The install went great, the first boot was also great, everything worked awesome!

I had turned off the computer. Hooked up my other HD as slave, rebooted and got this as a result:

"waiting for device /dev/hdb2 to appear: ok
    rootfs: major=3 minor=66 devn=834
warning: cant open /etc/mtab: no such file or directory
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount rootfs on hdb2"

so I unhooked the slave drive, rebooted, and got this:

waiting for device /dev/hdb2 to appear:......not found -- device nodes:
    console fb0 hda hda1 hda2 hdd loop0 loop1 loop2 loop3 loop4......loop7 md0 null ram ram0 ram1 ram2 ram3.....ram15 ramdisk tty1 tty2 zero warning: cant open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory
VFS: Cannot open root device "hdb2" or unknown-block (0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)

any suggestions? Im using grub as the boot loader. Help Me PLease!

    Thanks

    Problem Solved

Ok, so what I had to do was install Suse with both hard drives plugged in, problem solved.

Now I need to add my External DVD writer. Anyone care to inform me as to how I would install my External DVD writer? It is not automatically detected or installed as of yet.

    Thanks in advance.
