No sound after installing openSUSE 10.2

I am running OpenSUSE10.2 on a gateway laptop. I just installed today and everything went great, except I have no sound. I have looked at yast sound and other sound options but have had no luck even getting a beep out of my system. I wish I knew where to start. I would really appreciate the help.

The following is the output from yast hardware.

    Hardware Class: sound
Model: "Gateway 2000 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller"
    Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation"
Device: pci 0x27d8 "82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller"
    SubVendor: pci 0x107b "Gateway 2000"
    SubDevice: pci 0x0366
    Revision: 0x02
    Driver: "HDA Intel"
    Driver Modules: "snd_hda_intel"
    Memory Range: 0xd8240000-0xd8243fff (rw,non-prefetchable)
    IRQ: 58 (47249 events)
    Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d000027D8sv0000107Bsd00000366bc04sc0 3i00"
    Driver Info #0:
    Driver Status: snd_hda_intel is active
    Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd_hda_intel"
    Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown

    Problem solved...

I found a solution that worked for me. So I thought I'd post the link in case anyone else runs into this. Apparently in newer version of GDM/KDM you have to add a user to the audio group for sound to work.

"One easy way to properly setup the ACLs is to go into Yast, Security and Users, User Management, Edit, Details, and add the audio group to the user." - taken from the following link. I did that, rebooted and had sound.

Okay, guess that was just a start to the fix for this problem. I now have sound, but only about half the time that I boot up does the sound work. Anyone have any ideas?
