As a newcomer to Linux Forums and a relative novice to openSUSE 10.2 I would just like to thank several contributors, especially astrohopper and dth1 for pointing me in the right direction with regard to adding package repositories in openSUSE 10.2.
I had obviously confused repositories with suppositories since they can both be a pain in the rectal area.
I also have to give a big vote of thanks to Jem Matzan for his superb article "Hacking openSUSE 10.2". The section on "Adding distribution software sources" is essential reading for those who, like me, could not understand why they were not receiving software updates in 10.2.
I seem to remember being informed, shortly after installing SUSE 10.1, that I had 179 software updates!! After installing openSUSE 10.2 there was a deafening silence. As time went by, the silence grew louder and I slowly realised that something was wrong.
I had followed Jem's first piece of advice correctly and gone to YaST's Installation Source and added repositories. My BIG mistake was not realising that I also had to register an update server in order for the software updates to be activated via YUM.
Once I had registered I was notified of 37 software updates which were successfully downloaded and installed via YaST.
To all the contributors to Linux Forums-thank you.
