    calling all console(s),

    Howdy!

I'm a rusty old Solaris SA and Linux is great! But I used to launch a Console terminal window in CDE to keep an eye on what's going on behind the curtains. In all my years of using linux, I have yet to find that anywhere on any of the desktop managers.

Does this exist? I don't mean tailing message logs, trapd logs etc. to an xterm. And I don't see it on any of the stty screens from <alt> [F-#] key strokes either.

I vaguely remember I had the same question about a 100 years ago, but I've been working at a "higher level" in the food chain for awhile.

Any help, guidance, constructive comment is appreciated.

    Thanks!

Can you be a bit more precise about what it is exactly you are tying to do. Are you wanting to check what programs are running, who owns them, memory consumption etc?
