    same problems different computers

I new installed suse 10.0 on two different computers and have the same problems. Sound is not working. Printing is a problem.
Sound: After installing Suse 10 and the additional sources as required for sound I still can produce no sound, the sound cards can't be installed in Yast or with Alsa, and in the configuration sound testing option, the program continues searching.
When I try a Knpppix live CD the sound is loud and clear(goodbye and farewell message.
The HP 5150 printer print fine but only parts of a page, for example the this page is printed OK but a simple Kmail email message, only blank pages and when I move the same printer to the other computer just the same problem

Re: Sound, it appears you have both integrated audio and a sound card. If so, have you tried switching ports? On my own system here I had dual audio and when booting up it was a flip of the coin as to which one would work, even though setting the default audio to just one of them via yast. I eventually removed the pci sound card and that put an end to that issue!

Re: Printer, have you tried a different driver? I've run into similar issues and via CUPS reverted to an earlier driver and had success but I have not used your HP model so only speculating.

    different computers, same problems

The strange thing is, printing worked fine, but after a 'difficult' print job the printer refused to print. Sound has worked fine with Amarok but the next day it was gone.

now as I try to start Amarok I got this: Amarok is building up a connection with a mp3 streamer, it even says playing, but no sound is heard , two of the 3 engines I installed disappeared

I removed Amarok and reinstalled with smart amarok 1.4. But when I start Amarok a message appears that there are no sound card drivers, which I try to install with alsaconf, it appears that it goes well, but no output of any sound, how can I test the different parts for completeness and working?

I know this sounds odd and seems to be my univeral fixit speal, but try adding a new user then end the session of the old user and login as the new. Try sound now. Let us know if it works.
