Suse 9.3 Gui Problems
Ok I have used Linux off and on for a while but I decided to run it from a hard drive instead of playing with live disks.
I installed all 3 Suse 9.3 disks and the system was running fine.
Upon reboot the system got to start and then went blank.
All I have in the centre of my screen is a little box which say HZ
I imagine its a monitor thing.
So I ran the system in failsafe and logged in as Root
I ran sax2 and the same thing happened.
I then ran failsafe again and ran xorgconfig
I set the system on different occasions to run diff types of settings.
My monitor is a 17" CRT Samsung Syncmaster 739s
This monitor runs fine in Knoppix and is set at H/ 30-71 Hz V/50-160 Hz
I have read the following "Here's something to try. Boot off a knoppix CD (or similar live cd distro), wait until the desktop appears (hardware detection in knoppix is pretty good) then copy the xorg.conf file onto a floppy or your hard drive and try that instead of the sax generated one."
And also this "Ok, not a problem, don't even need a floppy. Just in the slackware command line chmod a folder to give anyone write access, e.g. /home/yourname. Then boot up slax and mount your slackware drive, then copy the xorg.conf file of slax to your slackware mounted drive, probably somewhere like: /mnt/hda2/home/yourname. Pretty easy, but just a little tedious....works marvels though "
Since I am quite new how do I copy the Knoppix xorg file to the drive as I am not allowed to do so due to protection on the files.
