    i386 vs i686

    Hi,

    I have never used suse before , im using mandriva right now, i jus downloaded openSUSE10.2 but its i386, and my machine is i686 P3, so ah well this make difference, my mandriva is i586 i believe, and i have not had any problems with it?
    So, would thier be really any big differences?

    I've had experiences with i686, i586 and i386 optimized distros before and from my experience, the difference is negligible. Any differences you may experience will most likely be based on other things.

    i386 is generic for all the intel processors for Pentium or higher.
    i586 is Pentium 2 or something
    i686 is Pentuim 3 or better.
