Networkmanager & Keyring manager problem
Hey people...
I've installed openSUSE 10.2 recently, coming from SLED 10. Meanwhile I've got everything up and running, even wireless without any issues. There's just a problem with my Networkmanager. Every time is log on to my laptop, the Networkmanager once again asks me about my WPA-PSK passphrase...
Even when I apply the setting in Yast > Network Devices > Network Cards it still asks me at each startup... This never was a problem with SLED 10 and openSUSE 10.1. How do I make it remember the settings? (using Intel integrated wireless chipset)
Btw, the Gnome Keyring manager is also quite annoying... I'm the only person who works on that laptop, so I like it disabled, anyone know where to find that? or even a workaround? Thnx people!

I had the same problem .. until I used KnetworkManager ... I have entered the passphrase once and have never had to re-enter it..

My only problem is i'm in the internet .. but cannot see my linux desktop server .. which is running samba
.. i'm still working on that

Samba is by default blocked by the firewall, turn it off to test it... bet you can see it as soon as it's turned off...

This is the default behaviour of Gnome Network Manager, and it is pretty irritating. There is a patch you can get for it but it is a nuisance that it continuously asks for it. Almost defeats the purpose - Anyway here's the link, it's for Ubuntu but you should be able to get it working...

I just had a look at that link I provided. I couldn't get it to build from scratch without a lot of messing about and I like a clean system so I didn't push it too far. I tried the Fedora rpm because it had no dependencies, and edited /etc/pam.d/gdm as required. I then set my login password to be the same as my keyring but it didn't seem to work. Let me know if you fare any better, I'd love to get that working too.
I don't see why it isn't activated by default, especially given it's better than storing the network information in plain text using iwconfig.
