why are you trying such a old versions? Latest Version of SuSe is 10.2 and RedHat has stopped its release after version 9. RedHat is supporting Fedora Core and its latest version is 6.
its quite possible that old distros are not recognizing your machine's hardware. try something latest. take a look at www.distrowatch.com
