Network card driver problem, NEWBIE
Hi Please can someone help me
I am trying to get into linux from windoze. I have installed SuSE 10.2 on an old pentium 2 machine. I have physicly inserted a DFE 530TX+ card. It does not auto recognise it and no drivers are present. I have found out that apparently I need the rtl8130.c installed, I have seen ref to other driver/versions 8139too.o, 8139too-wol.
I downloaded rtl8139.c and now don't know what to do with it. D-link who made the card sent me a red hat 6x and 7x installation guide but it fails. They send this (only part),
$ cd floppy
$ cp rtl8139.c /root(or any temp directory)
$ ncd /root
$ gcc -DMODULE -D__KERNEL__ -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -O6 -c rtl8139.c
`[ -f /usr/include/linux/modversions.h ] && echo -DMODVERSIONS`
At the point when I enter the command ncd / root I get a message that command ncd not recognised. I typed help but it doesn't seem to contain ncd.
All the other great advice seems to be to set the download/install manager to do these things online and updaate itself but as the network card IS the problem I can not even 'see' the net yet so can only download and burn to cd or use usb hard drive to transfer.
What do I need, where do I get it, what do I do with it (in absolute hand holding idiot terms for kids please
Any other ino needed please just ask and I will try and answer as best I can
Thanks in advance to ANYONE who can help.
