SUSE 10.2 help please
I'm a very new Linux user. I just installed Suse 10.2 and for some reason, I can't access the internet. How do I even begin to start troubleshooting this? What do I need to set or configure? Thanks in advance.

Are you trying to setup a wireless or wired connection? Usually network connections are setup from the Networking module of YAST.

Open YaSt, select 'Network Devices',select 'Network Card' you should now see your network card highlighted. This is what appears under my system;
Device Name: eth-id-00:10:b5:10:26:ca
Started automatically at boot
IP address assigned using DHCP
What is listed for yours? Also, is this your first delve in SuSE? 10.2 is a community release, it may have unfixed bugs in it,if this is your first SuSe,10.0 might be better for you as although older, most of it's bugs are fixed.

Does your network have encryption? If it does, make sure you've entered a WEP or WPA key.

Quills, yes my network uses WEP key. Do I need to enter this in for SUSE? I also have Fedora Core 6 box up and running and it got onto the internet just fine. So it's definitely SUSE related.
Where do I enter my WEP key on SUSE?

Martin. I'm assuming the little creature thing is YaST. But honestly I don't know. But I go to Application/Internet/Network Information/ This opens up a window call Devices - Network Tools. On the Devices tab, where it says Network device, there is a pull down menu where I have to change it to Ethernet interface eth0 and it says it's using protocol IPv6 (instead of 4, I know that sometimes this causes problems on some windows setups) and it gives me a funky long IPv6 ip address. That has to be throwing off my 2Wire router/modem. But I'm only guessing.
If I'm not looking in the right place, you'll have to tell me how to find and open YaST. Sorry for being a Newb.
BTW I'm using KDE if that has any bearing on anything.

Martin. I figured it all out. I don't know if me being logged on as a regular user was the problem to me not seeing Yast but I searched for it and opened it but using my root password then with your instructions I reconfigured it to set up automatically.
During my installation, I was trying to add the SUSE box to my Windows domain and I set something that I wasn't suppose to set.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. (feels like I learned something already) lol.
Now to figure out how to add this to my Server 2003 domain......
