    How to test modem driver?

Hi. I installed suse 10.2 and everything was ok, until I tried to install driver for motorola 56k winmodem. The only driver I could find for it, was from official motorla page, but it was for suse 9.0. So I tried to install the rpm anyway, and it said the installation was ok. But when I try to create new dial-up connection, I select modem device /dev/modem and fill in other data for my ISP. When I finished with connection creation, the Kinternet does not even run. So my questions are:
1.) Can the modem driver for 9.0 work on 10.2?
2.) How can I manualy run Kinternet?
3.) Is there any tool in suse that would allow me testing my modem(I mean ATDT commands)?
4.) Is it possible that the modem was installed in any of tty devices?(it is an internal modem, so no serial connection)
Can anyone help me with this
