Help installing ieee80211 sub system and IPW2200 drivers

OK I downloaded ieee80211-1.2.16 and extracted it to my /home directory. I navigated to the /home/ieee80211-1.2.16 directory and ran the remove file thats included. Then I ran "make" and I get this....

Checking in /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.13-smp for ieee80211 components...
grep: /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.13-smp/build//.config: No such file or directory
grep: /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.13-smp/build//include/linux/autoconf.h: No such file or directory
    make -C /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.13-smp/build M=/home/seth/ieee80211-1.2.16 modules
    make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.13-obj/i386/smp'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'modules'. Stop
    make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.13-obj/i386/smp'
    make: *** [modules] Error 2

It said something about need kernel-sources installed if directory is missing, but I already have that package installed.

    What am I doing wrong?

Nobody has had this problem before? The instructions seem pretty straight forward, but it isn't working like I had hoped.

Most people just don't bother doing that stuff.

As the IPW2200 driver (and the ieee80211 subsystem) is included in newer kernels (2.6.14 and up).

If you really want to go there and compile everything by yourself, you can take a look at those instructions.

Wireless is a rapidly changing technology, so using the latest version of your distro of choice (openSuse 10.2 in that case) is always easier.

I guess I'll just have to download 10.2 and be done with it then. It's probably pointless, but I was hoping to figure this stuff out because I just like to know how stuff works and how to do something manually if I have to. I guess I'm just weird.
