SUSE 10.2 & Acer-1641 sound issues
Hi,
I'm yet another newbie, my problem/question is... I have an Acer laptop-1641 which for the last several months has worked fine with Suse 10.2 however, yesterday I lost the ability to play sounds.. all sounds..
I've spent hours checking out the configuration (with my limited knowledge of linux/suse) .. done my best to figure why it's not working but can't seem to pin it down.
This morning I logged in as root user and the sound worked !! I switched users and logged as myself and it still worked.. Logged everyone out... then logged back in as myself and no sound ?? hmmm logged in as root and no sound !! Suse 10.2 seems to have trouble figuring out whether or not it should activate he sound card ??
In an effort to eliminate hardware, I did reboot into Windows and the sound was fine..
Any thoughts anyone ?
Regards
Norm

Have you checked YAST>Hardware>Sound Devices? Any clues there? Is your sound card the only one listed, is the driver info correct, etc. Worth a look. I've had problems with SUSE 10.2 correctly starting the default card when using two sound devices but after removing the pci card AOK so I don't know what else to suggest.
