Like many other unhappy pc owners I have intel board with the JMicron excuse of a PATA chip. After long nights of trying I finally got opneSUSE 10.2 installed and grub to dual boot to windows.
Now the problem is that even tho I can get to windows I can't get to SUSE. It starts the kernel but after couple of checks it tries to find the root partition and can't find the hard drive where it is. I can work around this by booting with the install DVD, starting the install, aborting the install to get to that blue text setup thingie, choosing to modify kernel modules, installing the JMicron and generic-ide modules and then starting from the hard drive... and after a while this gets quite annoying. How can I work around this so I can boot straight to SUSE. I've checked the /etc/system/kernel file but it tells me that the JMicron and generic-ide are loaded on boot (I would think that this is due starting through the DVD and installing them manually). How can I get them to load without the DVD?
