    Xgl does not load GUI

HI, Tryin to set up, 3d desktop, i have a ati radeon card, i know its possible bcuz i had the 3d desktop with mandriva 07 but it was AIGXL not XGL, i have, switched to opensuse 10.2, i have 3d accerleration activiated,i follow this http://www.novell.com/documentation/..._cust_xgl.html, or even when i try to enable 3d desktop effects

but then wehn i reboot, i cant get into GUI, its only loads at command line..........so i had switch back Xorg, thru the i guess text-based yast, so anyone have this problem, what should i do to get the Xgl working?, could it be a problem with my driver, i didnt install any drivers i just did what ever came with the distrobution, plse and thank you help is appreciated,

I'm also running Suse 10.2 on an ATI Radeon (x700 mobility in my case) with beryl succefully running. I'd be more then happy to help you but could you please put the correct link as the one you provided (http://www.novell.com/documentation/..._cust_xgl.html) does not lead anywhere so I'm not sure what you have tried.

Simply following http://www.novell.com/documentation/..._cust_xgl.html worked fine for me.

One word of advice, don't add/edit any lines from your xorg.conf despite what some tutorials have advised. Just the steps on the SUSE wiki are enough to get compiz/beryl running fine.

    I added the lines
    Code:
    Section "Extensions"
        Option "Composite" "0"
to my xorg.conf and this prevented X from starting altogether. Revmove them and XGL started fine
Ubuntu Jaunty :: Arch Linux (current) :: Acer Aspire 1692WMLi

okay well, i just started to read something.............in my desktop effects, it says Your graphics card is not supported. It may be able to run Xgl, but might be unusably slow...............but i was runnign aigxl with mandriva perfectly fine, is there a big difference between aigxl and XGL?

DO you have 3D turned on? Are you sure that you installed the right driver?

yeah, i never installed a driver i used the one that came with the distro.................but i think the one that came with the distro is the wrong driver...............so i need a driver for Ati radeon 7000, im lookin round i cant seem to find one.......is there a like a standard driver that will work with all cards?

Yes the one you are using but it does not support 3D acceleration. For that you must get the driver from the manufacturer.

Looks like you may be out of luck. It appears the 7000 series is not supported in Linux
