    Merge Partition

    Hi all,

i have two ext3 partitions in my box that i would like to merge. The sda2 is mounted to / and the sda3 is mounted to /home, so there's really no point in having two, i would just like to merge both of them. How would i go about doing this?

p.s. i have tried using yast to delete partition sda3 and resize partition sda2 but it says that i must unmount sda2 first, which cannot be done because it is in use.

Probably easiest to use the Gparted LiveCD:

    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

There's good documentation for using it on the website.

you are merging /home partition. did you backup data of /home partition? you have to edit /etc/fstab file, create home folder under /, preserve permissions and symlinks. its possible to merge ( in other words, delete ) /home partition but its not an easy task IMO.

I think it is a bad idea. You should keep them seperate.

    1) If you ever change distro you home settings and data can be perserved

    2) If you upgrade the same

    3) It you must reinstall the same.

Basicly I think your asking for trouble down the road
