    decoders

I am brand new to SuSe, and still fairly new to Linux. I am using SuSe Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.

I am trying to play some media files (wmv, mpg, avi, and dvd's). My default dvd player is Totem, but when I try to play these files it says that I am missing decoders. I spoke to tech support and they said that these decoders are not supported.

How do I get and install these decoders so that I can play these files.

Please be really detailed with responses as I am very new to Linux, am still transitioning from Windows mentallity.

    Thanks

okay..ready for another really "newbie" question....

How do I tell what version of SuSe I have? I know it is SLED 10, but how can I tell if it is 10.0, 10.1 or 10.2?

    2 problems...

I checked the release notes under help...it says SuSe 10 (nothing else) just 10

Then, I tried to set up that VLC program and it took in yast and when I tried to download the 3 files for it here is the error message I got.

    Dependency Conflict:
vlc-0.8.6a-3.0.x86_64[20070208_220637] cannot be installed due to missing dependencies
There are no installable providers of libwx_baseu_net-2.6.so.0()(64bit) for vlc-0.8.6a-3.0x86_64[20070208-220637]
    Conflict Resolution:
    -do not install vlc
    -ignore this requirement just here

    if it's just 10 then it's 10.0 version
    Code:
    Protocol - HTTP
                 - FTP
     Server name - download.videolan.org
     Directories - /pub/vlc/SuSE/9.3
                 - /pub/vlc/SuSE/10.0
                 - /pub/vlc/SuSE/10.1
                 - /pub/vlc/SuSE/10.2
install it again with the right version 10.0 soit will be
    Code:
    Protocol - HTTP
    Server name - download.videolan.org
     Directories - /pub/vlc/SuSE/10.0

When I did it the first time, I wasn't sure, so I ran it as 10.0, that is when I got that error msg I put in my last post.
